Sussex

The county of Sussex has emerged as one of the UK’s leading wine regions. The rise of Sussex wine can be attributed to the region’s combination of a cool, maritime climate and the unique terroir, which closely resembles the renowned Champagne region.

Sussex has proven to be an ideal location for the cultivation of traditional grape varieties used in the production of sparkling and still wines. The grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier thrive in this environment, enabling winemakers to craft exceptional sparkling wines which can rival their French counterparts. Leading producers of Sussex sparkling wines include Tinwood, Wiston and Roebuck.

There are also many producers of still Sussex wines. The most famous of which are probably Stopham near Pulborough and Bolney near Haywards Heath. Tidebrook Wines are a producer to watch.

As the region continues to gain recognition, Sussex wines are becoming increasingly sought after, both domestically and internationally, as discerning wine enthusiasts discover the unique character and quality that this emerging wine region offers.
