Grahams Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) presented in a 37.5 half bottle. A hlaf bottle of Port is perfect for a couple of glasses of Port after lunch or makes a great stocking filler.
W & J Graham’s was founded in Oporto, Portugal’s second city, in 1820 by the two brothers William and John Graham and for nearly two hundred years Grahams Ports have been made by just two families, the Grahams and the Symingtons – in 1970 the Grahams sold the company to the Symington Family who brought with them their own rich heritage in the Port trade.
The quality of Graham’s Port relies on the finest grapes. The company owns and manages extensive vineyard estates, allowing them to have direct control over the quality and sourcing of their grapes. They are primarily sourced from five iconic quintas in the Douro Valley: Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta do Tua, Quinta das Lages and two others, Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta do Vale de Malhadas. The grapes for Grahams LBV are sourced primarily from Quinta dos Malvedos and Quinta do Tua vineyards, with contributions from Vila Velha and Vale de Malhadas – all of which are privately owned by members of the Graham family.
Grahams Late Bottled Vintage Port is a Port wine made from grapes selected from the finest production of a very good year, but unlike a ‘declared’ Vintage Port – which is bottled in its second year, ‘LBV’ matures for an average of 5 years in seasoned oak casks prior to bottling (hence the term, ‘Late Bottled’). This wood-ageing encourages the wine’s development and it is therefore a more accessible, earlier drinking and approachable alternative to Vintage Port.
This wine was matured in wood in the Graham’s 1890 lodge for five years prior to being bottled ready for drinking. The wine is a blend of typical Douro grape varieties: mainly Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional with smaller quantities of Sousão, Alicante Bouschet as well as Tinta Amarela and Tinta Barroca.
Grahams Late Bottled Vintage Port has a lovely honeysuckle fragrance as well as hints of mint, often present in Graham’s wines, along with bright, attractive tropical fruit notes in the background. Sumptuous ripe black fruit flavours on the palate combining with hints of kirsch. The fine-grained tannins give the wine balance and structure, whilst good acidity underscores the wine’s freshness.
Grahams Late Bottled Vintage Port can be enjoyed on its own after a meal, perhaps with a good cigar.
It also pairs very well with dark chocolate desserts as well as semi-cured and cured cheeses like Cheddar and Manchego. Also great with blue cheeses and is traditionally served with Stilton.
Does not require decanting. Serve at room temperature. Once open enjoy within 4-6 weeks.
