Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha is a red wine produce from 100% Garnacha grapes grown in the Campo de Borja Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP). Borsao Tres Picos is the flagship wine and has won many awards.
Bodegas Borsao is co-operative of of co-operatives! The winery was established as a co-operative in 1958 and in 2001 joined with two other progressive co-operative, cellars (the co-operatives of Pozuelo and Tabuenca) in the Campo de Borja region to become the Bodegas Borsao we know today. Campo de Borja is a beautiful wine region nestled in the northeastern part of Spain. Specifically, it can be found in the province of Zaragoza within the autonomous community of Aragon. This region has gained quite a reputation for crafting exceptional red wines, with a particular emphasis on the esteemed Garnacha (Grenache) grape variety. Garnacha represents over 60% of the vineyard plantings. The wines produced here are renowned for their superb quality and character. Grapes are sourced from 375 member growers who with a planting of some 2400 hectares of vines.
The grapes for Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha are sourced from Borsao’s oldest vines, up to 60 years old, planted on uneven clay and limestone soils in the Alto Moncayo – at an altitude of 600-700 metres. The Cierzo wind from the Moncayo sweeps across the foothills of the mountain. This cold, dry wind reduces humidity levels and allows grapes to be picked a couple of weeks later in the harvest, at full maturity. Yields are less than four and a half tons per hectare. Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel (25-30ºC) with 20-25 days maceration on skins. Maturation for 5 months in new French oak barriques.
Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha has an intense bouquet of mature red fruits with floral notes, typical of the best Garnachas. The palate is rich and well-structured with masses of bramble and ripe strawberry fruit and warm vanilla and liquorice spice. Tannins are supple but evident and the finish is big, generous and long. A pure and vibrant expression of Garnacha with remarkably elegant tannins and generous velvety fruit.
Try with Spanish tapas such as patatas bravas, chorizo, jamón Ibérico, Spanish tortilla or grilled vegetables. This also works well with grilled red meat, braised dishes and Mediterranean cuisine like roasted eggplant with tomato and feta cheese, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, or braised chicken with olives and tomatoes.
For the cheeseboard try with hard cheeses such as Manchego, mature Cheddar or Gouda.
