Borsao Borgia Garnacha, stylised as Borgia by Borsao, is a Spanish red wine made from 100% Garnacha (Grenache) grapes. The grapes are sourced from vineyards locatedin the Campo de Borja Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP).
Bodegas Borsao is co-operative of of co-operatives! The winery was established as a co-operative in 1958 and in 2001 joined with two other progressive co-operative, cellars (the co-operatives of Pozuelo and Tabuenca) in the Campo de Borja region to become the Bodegas Borsao we know today. The Denominacion de Origen of Campo de Borja is located in the north west of the Zaragoza province of Aragon, Spain. It is located between the Ebro Valley and the Iberian system of moutain ranges. The whole region is dominated by the Moncayo mountain which gives the area it own microclimate. The vineyards lie in the foothills of the Moncayao mountain and the region is characterised by having an arid climate with hot, dry days and cool nights – conditions in which Garnacha thrives. This region has gained quite a reputation for crafting exceptional red wines, with a particular emphasis on the esteemed Garnacha (Grenache) grape variety. Garnacha represents over 60% of the vineyard plantings. The wines produced here are renowned for their superb quality and character. Grapes are sourced from 375 member growers who with a planting of some 2400 hectares of vines.
The grapes for Borsao Borgia Garnacha are sourced from Garnacha grown on alluvial soils in the foothills of the Moncayo mountain. Grapes are typically harvested in the first two weeks of October. Temperature controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel at 22ºC – 25ºC, with a 15 day maceration period.
Borsao Borgia Garnacha has bright plum and berry fruit aromas. The palate is rich and welcoming with ripe bramble characters and soft, approachable tannins on the finish.
Drink with slow-cooked belly pork, chorizo and chickpea stew, mid-week pasta.
