Gran Calzadilla, the bodega’s top top wine is produced from the oldest Tempranillo vines (50%) and the best Cabernet (50%) of the Estate. Both are vinified and aged separately in American and French Allier oak casks for a period of 12 to 16 months. After which, the coupage is made and the wine matures a further 18 months in bottle. It is the grand wine of the house, a reflection of the best that may be achieved in terms of concentration and complex fruit with sufficient structure to cellar for a long time.
Gran Calzadilla is a dark reddish / brown colour with a lighter rim. It has a sensational bouquet of black fruits, cocoa, vanilla and aromatic herbs and spices with clove, peppers and cinammon notes, it has a balsamic oiliness and great richness on the palate, very rounded and velvety, intense and expressive mature fruit with toasted and smoky background, a long finish of fruit and liquorice sensations. Soft, smooth and mellow.
