Cave de Turckheim Riesling Grand Cru Brand is the archetypal Alsace riesling: aromatic, elegant and complex.
Cave de Turckheim is situated in the pretty village of Turckheim, just slightly north west of Colmar. It is firmly established as one of the best co-operatives in the world. Benefitting from the region’s uniquely dry terroir, Cave de Turckheim has successfully implemented viticulture raisonnée; the member growers reduced the use of pesticides, soil treatments, water and energy consumption which ensures the sustainable production of high quality grapes with minimal environmental impact. There is now a state of the art winery and Jean Michel Lihrmann, who has been the senior winemaker for over 25 years, strongly believes that varietals in Alsace should express their delicate characteristics and favours the dryer style of Alsace wines. Testimony to their quality and attention to detail has been the clutch of medals and awards gained over the past few years, culminating in a clutch of awards, especially for the Grand Cru Brand range.
The Grand Cru Brand takes its name from the German for “fire” because, due to its southerly aspect, this vineyard benefits from remarkably high levels of sunshine which in turn results in grapes with high levels of ripeness and richness. The grapes for the Cave de Turckheim Riesling Grand Cru Brand undergo a pneumatic pressing, temperature controlled fermentation, there is no fining and only a light filtration before bottling. This is all in an effort to preserve the fruit and aromatic qualities of the wine yet maintain elegance, good acidity and balance.
100% Riesling. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Fine and dry with elegant pear, floral and citrus fruit on the nose underpinned by toasty aromas and a wet-gravel minerality. The palate is broader with rich fruits, a beautiful play of dry and sweet, with a smoky element and underpinned with luscious acidity.
Drink with seafood or, in the true spirit of Alsace, with rich pork and cheese dishes such as Choucroute or Tarte Flambée, otherwise known as Flammküche.
