Quinta de la Erre Albarino is a superb Galician white wine made at a small 10 hectare estate in the village of Eiras in O Rosal. It is located in the south of the province of Pontevedra at the base of the Monte de la Magdalena adjacent to the Minho River. The region is known for its Atlantic-influenced climate with mild winters with high precipitation but it is also sheltered by the Azores with mild summers and little rain.
The Quinta de la Erre estate comprises of 10 hectares spread over 50 plots of vines and is planted with 85% Albarino , 10% Loureira and 5% Caino. Vineyard planting started in the 1970s, with more added in both the 1980s and 1990s. The vineyards are composed of alluvial sandy soils with clay and pebbles and are at height of 70m above sea level. The estate combines traditional attitudes with modern wine-making techniques and Jose Santiago is an advocate of minimal but precise intervention.
The grapes for the Quinta de la Erre Albarino are hand harvested into small 14kg boxes to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in the best condition. The wine undergoes a cool fermentation for approximately 12 days followed by 30 days sur lie, all in stainless steel vats. The wine is filtered prior to bottling and rested 3 months in bottle prior to release. 100% Albarino.
Quinta de la Erre Albarino is a great wine as an aperitif or as a match for seafood, light salads and grilled chicken dishes.
Quinta de la Erre Albarino is a bright and clear straw colour with green reflections. The nose has aromas of citrus, lime, tropical fruits and white blossom notes. The wine is dry but with good vibrancy, fruit, freshness and minerality on the palate. A well-balanced wine with good acidity and a long lingering finish.
