Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc presented in 37.5cl half bottles.
Villa Maria is probably one of the most famous New Zealand winery and, alongside Cloudy Bay, is responsible for the initial popularity of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in the the UK. The origins of Villa Maria stretch back to 1961 when, aged 21, Sir George Fistonich leased 5 acres of land from his father, planted vines and started making wine. Since those first cuttings took hold in the soil out in Mangere, near Auckland, Sir George has been determined to be at the cutting edge of quality wine-growing. Today Villa Maria is available in more than 50 countries around the world and has claimed the title of New Zealand’s Most Awarded Winery for over thirty consecutive years.
Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc is made from fruit was sourced from a range of vineyards in the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. The combination of soils and climate from each of the vineyards provided the various components of the final blend and produced the characteristics typical of Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes from each vineyard were harvested and fermented separately in individual tanks. A neutral yeast and cold fermentation were employed to preserve all of the lovely fruit characters found naturally within this grape variety. Once the ferments had finished, the wines were blended, gently fined, filtered and bottled immediately to retain freshness.
Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc showcases everything fresh and vibrant about Marlborough. Initially, the classic Awatere aromas jump out of the glass, such as lemongrass, jalapeño peppers and fresh herbs. The cool climate in the Awatere Valley is influenced by Mt Tapuae-o-uenuku and the cool alpine winds and fresh sea breezes protect the natural acidity in this wine. In contrast, the Wairau Valley has warmer summer months, with dry nor-westerly winds influencing vineyards to produce a pungent Sauvignon Blanc with ripe citrus and tropical fruit flavours.
Perfect aperitif wine, serve chilled on warm summer days. Fresh herbal flavours match well with most salads, whereas the riper tropical flavours match well with any fish recipes.
