Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas Tinto, Douro

Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas is a Douro red wine blend. The “two quintas” in question are Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares. Quinta de Ervamoira is located in the heart of the Douro, in schist soil and at low altitude and the climate is hot and dry which allows the grapes to fully mature. At Quinta dos Bons Ares, which has a granite soil and is at a higher altitude, the grapes mature in fresher, windy conditions which lends them freshness and vivacity. Through careful blending the “Duas Quintas” is a unique, fruity, strong and complex wine.

The 2014 vintage of the Duas Quintas is a blend of 41% Touriga Nacional, 36% Touriga Franca and the remaining 23% is a blend of typical Douro grape varieties (Tinta Roriz, Tinta da Barca, Tinta Barroca, Sousão, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela). The grapes are harvested by hand into 150kg box and are then crushed and destalked prior to fermentation in a combination of stone lagares and stainless steel. Following malolactic fermentation in vats, 20% of the wine is aged in French oak cask, 30% in oak barrels and the rest remains in stainless steel vats. The wine is bottled 13 months later.
